Andy Goldstein PRO Derek Anderson
Derek Anderson (PRO) – Look, we all know about Anderson's negatives. The former sixth rounder's completion percentage was worse than Tavaris Jackson, he faltered down the stretch, and Brady Quinn is waiting to take over at the first sign of trouble. The truth of the matter, though, is 2007 was Anderson's first extended taste of NFL action. His fantasy statistics were much better across the board than Carson Palmer's first season and comparable to Peyton Manning's first year. With Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow both primed for big years, Anderson fully deserves a top 10 quarterback ranking, even if he can't connect on more than 60% of his passes. He's may not be the next top fantasy quarterback, but it's clear that he is being pegged as a bust by some more because of his sixth round draft position than due to his impressive stats.
Mike Mady CON Derek Anderson
Derek Anderson (CON) – Anderson took the fantasy world by storm last season and is now being considered a No. 1 quarterback by many, heading into 2008. Those who are going to count on Anderson as their team’s No. 1 may be in for disappointment. The Browns will have one of the league’s tougher schedules and Anderson’s production may suffer. Anderson will need to deal with the high expectations being placed on him and it is uncertain how he will handle the pressure. Also, he has already disappointed many fantasy owners who counted on him down the stretch last season. Anderson struggled through weeks 14-17 averaging 181.25 passing yards, 1.25 touchdowns and 1.5 interceptions. All that combined with the aforementioned low completion percentage (56.5 percent) and pressure from Quinn could make the upcoming season a difficult one for Anderson. When thinking of quarterbacks who came out of nowhere to have success people seem to always remember the likes of Tom Brady but often forget the likes of Tommy Maddox.
