PRO/CON Michael Turner

Mike Mady PRO Michael Turner

Michael Turner (PRO) – Turner has been considered one of the league’s best backups for a few seasons now and will finally get his chance in Atlanta as the Falcons’ No. 1 running back. Turner has a career average of 5.5 yards-per-carry and has looked impressive in limited action. The 26 year old is in the prime of his career and figures to be the focal-point of the Falcons’ offense. Turner will also have Jerious Norwood as a change-of-pace back, allowing him to stay fresh. Norwood is more of a speed back and will surely yield to Turner in the red zone, an opportunity he did not have in San Diego. Turner has sleeper potential and may make some owners happy in 2008.

Andy Goldstein CON Michael Turner

Michael Turner (CON) - Life is easy for backup running backs. They get to save their energy for a handful of carries late in games or late in drives after defenses have been softened up. Turner became quite awesome at doing just that. He has a life time yards per carry average of 5.5, but that number is obviously inflated. Right now, he is being taken as a starting running back across fantasy leagues. That's all well and nice, but is anyone worried about, well, the fact that he is running for the Atlanta Falcons. Heck, if Turner were the Chargers starting back, I could get behind him being a fantasy starter. But Atlanta? It is tough for teams to run with any consistency when they are losing by 20 points after the first quarter! Turner will be lucky to see 250 carries this season, and using him as a starter is a leap of faith I'm not willing to make.
